This little 4-tool set was probably a promotional item of the RCA Service Co. and is VERY RARE - I have never seen another in over forty years of tool collecting, nor can I find any on the internet. The case and tools are pristine. The chrome-plated pliers are by Snap-On (#94), the 4" adjustable wrench (also chromed) is by Diamalloy and is marked as made by the "Diamond Calk & Horseshoe Co. of Duluth Minn." Interestingly enough they stared out as a very successful horseshoe company and as demand lessened because of the auto, they switched their forging know-how and capacity to wrench making, remaining a family business until the 70's. They manufactured the wrenches for Snap-On for many years. The name on the wrench marks it as fairly early on in their tool business while they still referred to themselves and probably still thought of themselves, as a horseshoe company. The screw starter is only marked "made in USA" with a patent number only. The patent was issued in 1939 to one George F Pearson - who made this one is a mystery to me as it appears he licensed the manufacturing rights out to various companies (one of which may very well have been Snap-On). The fourth screwdriver tool fits neatly in the set, but does not make full sense to me since you need a handle to mount it in so pressure can be applied to drive the screw - there was most likely a small handle which is missing now and could probably be easily replaced. This little set has absolutely no apologies - it may not be a true one-of-a-kind, but I would lay odds none of your tool buddies have one or have even seen one. Thanks for looking - if you have a few minutes, I have a number of antique tools listed in my Ebay store, both collector and user quality. (G105 - 7/21)
