I have had hundreds of scrapbooks and this is easily the most poignant.
Sidney Rahn, Elgin Illinois, enlisted as a private, eventually made Sgt Major, and in a couple years received his commission in the 7th Fighter Command going on to become a Captain.
He was assigned to Headquarters at Hickam and both he and his family went to Hawaii on the SS Monterey on Aug 20 1941. One of the photos in the scrapbook is a picture of their house at Hickam. The family survived Dec 7 and Mrs. Rahn took the family back to the mainland after the attack. Capt Rahn stayed and worked for General Davidson as his adjutant in Fighter Command. Rahn died in Hawaii in March 1943 of an unknown illness. His wife continued to compile the scrapbook. It consists of about 50 pages of cards, letters, memorabilia, before and after Rahn died. I pictured a few of the cards. The most affecting are cards to his daughter from other children and the cards from Rahn to his wife. I also pictured the Hap Arnold signed letter which is quite collectible by itself. Remarkable story of a WW2 family.
"The Captain Will Ever Live" was the handwritten caption on a card to his daughter from one of her friends.
