Description
Original WWII eight page letter written by Major J. Warren Hundley, dated November 16, 1944, he was a US Army Doctor and Holocaust Doctor. There are two original notes, one German and one French. This letter has important content about how Medical Doctors and Nurses lived in tents during the ETO. In this original eight page letter he writes of many officers.
See letter for content.
The original letter and censored envelope comes with 13 small B&W prints
(these are reprints not original photos)
of Dr. Hundley. Also come color copies of Major Hundley uniform, 76th General Hospital. These are newly printed photos,
I do not have his Uniform, it was sold a long time ago.
Also includ
ed is a group is a
Facsimile
of a letter he sent to his wife dated April 23
rd
1945, and some corresponding dated Stars and Stripes newspaper articles
(also Facsimiles).
In one of the
Facsimile
letters he writes about the Holocaust, Eisenhower and the liberation of the camps. In this Facsimile letter he writes this:
“These are cold facts and not propaganda. I've talked to many of the ones who survived and they verify it all. This is the kind of enemy were up against and who MUST be dealt with accordingly. I'm delighted that Gen. Eisenhower has requested the delegation of Congressmen & publishers to come over and see for themselves, and only hope they return in time to report to the Conference …”
Also included in this grouping is a 5 page copy of an Army document
listing all the doctors, nurses and Red Cross staff at the 76th General Hospital. I think this is a 1944 list with home
address and a copy of content about Medics in WWII. Also letter content of a letter sent to him from a Major Lester L. Lessig, a Doctor in India.
About Major J. Warren Hundley.
I have done very little research Major Hundley so I don't have a lot of details about him. I do know that the 76th General Hospital was a major hospital during the war. Dr. Hundley was there during the discovery/liberation of the German prison camps.
Also he was at the
field
hospital Jan. 8th 1945, when a V-1 ‘buzz bomb’ struck the hospital, killing 24 patients and staff, injuring another 20, and causing heavy damage to installations and equipment, Liège, Belgium.
In one of the letters he wrote after the war he had 89 points which was a lot for any US solider in Europe.
Where is the value in this letter grouping and why the facsimiles?
When you buy a WWII letter of this type you are not just purchasing a common artifact of WWII, this letter is unique and an investment on two levels:
First, it preserves history that will be of value to future generations.
Second, it will go up in value as years go by.
In this grouping I provide a number of facsimiles that give additional eyewitness evidence to the Holocaust and the importance of this Doctor who wrote the letter and his individual contribution in defeating the
Third Reich
.
The facsimiles also add value, they may very well be more significant than the letter itself because what the facsimiles do is tell a deeper contextual story about this Doctor who worked in saving lives and liberating the world from the
Third Reich.
I believe it is the story or narrative that is the most significant aspect of this letter/artifact that you are purchasing.
